Philae: First Pylon

Isis Temple Philae Island - Temples - The Buildings - Builders & Buildings

18 meters high commissioned by Pharaoh Nectanebo, the entrance used to be flanked by 2 Granite Obelisks and 2 Granite Lions which were erected under the orders of Pharaoh Euergetes II. The Pylon is covered now in Reliefs; on the East Tower you can see Pharaoh Ptolemy XII who is smiting his enemies and grasping their hair ready to bludgeon them. Accompanying him on the Pylon is the Goddess Isis, God Horus, Goddess Hathor and Goddess Nephthys.
