Hemiunu

Architects - The People

Prince, Vizier, Priest of Thoth and Architect to Pharaoh Khufu, Hemiunu is believed to have been the brain behind the Great Pyramid of Giza, click here to find out more.

He was born into the Royal Family, one of at least 18 children of Prince, Priest and Vizier Nedermaat and Itet. His father was the Eldest Son of Pharaoh Snefru, founder of the 4th Dynasty of Ancient Egypt and Nedermaat served as his father’s Vizier, but never succeeded to the Crown. This was taken up by Pharaoh Khufu, which makes Hemiunu a half nephew to the Pharaoh. Both his parents are buried, together, in Mastaba 16 at Meidum, whilst Hemiunu was buried in a Tomb – G4,000 – located close to his half Uncle’s Mortuary Complex at Giza.
