Raised versus Sunken Reliefs
Artisans - The Builders - Builders & BuildingsRaised vs Sunken Reliefs
Raised Reliefs show the hieroglyphs or images of the deities stood up from the flatter surface around them.

Sunken Reliefs show the images of the deities or the hieroglyphs cut into and below the flatter surface around them.

All reliefs began on a plastered flattened surface which was grid lined for accuracy, Artisans then hand drew the Scenes required in red, mistakes were then amended in black by Masters of their Arts before either being painted or carved and then painted.
The most impactful Reliefs were made with consideration to how these Reliefs would look in sunlight with the shadows.
