Late Period
Egypt Through Time - What is Ancient Egypt?
Egypt’s Late Period: 664 to 332 BC
26th to 31st Pharaonic Dynasties
The Assyrians invaded, driving out the Nubians and then left to deal with issues in their home country
A Pharaoh of Libyan heritage ruled for a short period of time before the Persians invaded and occupied Egypt twice

The late period saw a flourish of building to echo the great Egyptian periods of its past, such as the Middle and New Kingdom Periods. Demotic Script became the new and faster way of writing versus hieroglyph use for daily use. In religion more focus was attributed to the animal form of the deities and millions of animals were bred specifically to be mummified and offer to their animal counterpart deity on their death. This included the Apis Bull at the Saqqara Necropolis, the crocodiles in Kom Ombo, cats for Bastet, lions for Sekhmet, and ibises for Thoth.
